New Bench on the Gratton! -

An old railway sleeper was recently salvaged from the River Dever; where it has possibly lain since the dismantlement of the railway line in 1960. It was agreed by the Trustees that this sleeper should be upcycled and made into a bench, by the river, near to where it was found.

Last weekend, two Trustees set about the work. Wooden posts were bought to be the legs, and two holes were measured and dug. Then we measured up and attached the legs. Then came the heavy lifting, to place the bench inside the holes. After checking it was perfectly level (which we got right first time) we used Postcrete to secure the bench into the ground, and then finished it off with the excavated top soil.

Naturally we then had to give it a test 🙂
